What this site knows about you
Very little, and this page is the whole of it — every field, the one cookie, and the things we deliberately do not do. It is written from what the software here actually does, so if you find something on this page that the site does not do, the page is what is wrong.
Last updated Written from what this system actually does, and not yet read by a lawyer. That reading happens before anything on this site can be bought.
This page is about this site
The pages you are reading now, the form you might send us, and the account you can create here. That is a small surface and it stays small on purpose: we would rather be able to describe all of it than describe most of it well.
Two things sit deliberately outside it, and they are the two most often confused with it. Both are yours rather than ours, and both deserve a notice of their own written by you.
The whole list
What a message to us actually stores
One form serves the contact page, the demo request and the name search. These are its fields — all of them, in the order it asks — and the three at the bottom that you never type.
| What | How it gets there | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| What you would like to talk about | You tick it | The choices are the parts of the business plus “not sure yet”, which is a real answer rather than an unfinished one. It decides who reads your message first. |
| The shape of your business | You choose it, or skip it | Just you, a handful of you, a shop with a store room, or more than one branch. It is a question about your days rather than your headcount, and nothing is refused for leaving it blank. |
| Your business name | You type it, or skip it | So the reply opens with your name rather than “Dear sir”. |
| What you run today | You type it, or skip it | A line about what you keep your records in now. It is what lets somebody answer usefully instead of generally. |
| Your message | You type it, or skip it | Kept exactly as the letter you watched being written on the page — because that is the thing you pressed send on, and a later change to how we word it must not be able to rewrite what you said. |
| Your name | You type it, or skip it | So the person ringing you back knows who to ask for. |
| An email address, a phone number, or both | You type at least one | The only thing the form insists on, and which of the two is your choice: somebody who wants a phone call should not have to invent an address to ask for one. |
| The page you sent it from | Recorded for you | The contact page, the demo page and the name search all send the same form. This is how a name typed into the search is not read as a general enquiry. |
| The internet address it came from | Recorded for you | Kept for one purpose, written into the record’s own notes: telling a flood of junk apart from a person. It is not used to work out where you are or to recognise you later. |
| What your browser says it is | Recorded for you | The line every browser sends about itself. Same single purpose as the address above, and no other. |
There is no hidden field on any of those forms and nothing is filled in for you from anywhere else. Long answers are cut to a length rather than quietly stored whole. And the letter you read before pressing send is written again on our side from the same answers, so what an operator opens is what you actually chose rather than whatever was in the page by the time it was submitted.
What is not here
The things this site does not do
Most of a privacy page is made of absences, and an absence is the easiest thing to claim carelessly. Each of these was checked against the site itself.
Nothing here counts you
There is no measurement script on this site — not ours and not anybody else’s. No visitor counter, no heat map, no record of which pages you read or how long you stayed. A page you open is a page we never hear about.
Nothing is fetched from another company
The type is the type already on your machine. The drawings are drawn here. There is no lettering, script or picture pulled in from somewhere else while you read, so nobody but us even knows you are here.
Nothing you send is passed on or sold
There is nothing built here that could — an enquiry goes to one place and stays there. But it is a promise as well as a fact, and it is the one on this page we would deserve to be judged on.
The links out are only links
The footer points at our own pages on two other websites. Nothing is loaded from either of them unless you follow the link, and once you do you are on their site under their rules rather than ours.
One of those may change. If a way of counting visitors is ever added, this page says so before it goes on rather than afterwards — that is the only useful promise anybody can make about a thing they have not built yet.
If you have an account
What signing in puts on the record
An account here is a business and a person who signs in for it. This is everything that goes down, in the order it happens.
When you sign up
A business and a person, kept apart
The business gets a name and a kind — a business or an individual. You get an email address, a phone number if you give one, and a password, which is kept only in a scrambled form that cannot be turned back into what you typed. Nobody here can read your password, including the people who wrote this.
When we send you a link
Confirming an address, or starting again
A link to confirm your email address when you sign up, and one to set a new password when you ask for it. Each works once and expires; only a scrambled form of the link is kept here, so the copy in your inbox is the only usable one. The messages go out through a mail server set up in our own console.
When you sign in
A session you can see and end
Each sign-in is recorded: when it was last used, the internet address, and what the browser said it was. That list is on your profile page, and one button under it ends every session but the one you are sitting at — which is what to press the day you see one you do not recognise.
If you add the second step
The code from your authenticator
What your authenticator app and this site share is held encrypted, not in plain sight. For our own staff that second step is not optional, because the console holds other people’s business.
When you change something
What you can edit yourself
Your business name and your phone number. Changing the email address is not built yet — it has to confirm both the old address and the new one to be safe, so for now it is a thing to ask us for rather than a thing to do. Every change is written into the record described below.
Afterwards
How long it is kept, and who can open it
The uncomfortable half. One of these two answers is not finished, and it is written here as unfinished rather than rounded up into something reassuring.
How long it is kept
A message you send is not deleted. There is no timer on it and no button in our own console that removes one — an enquiry can be marked as dealt with, not made to go away. That is deliberate as far as it goes: what a customer was told before they bought is worth keeping.
What it means, said plainly: we have not set a period after which your message is gone, and we should. Until we do, ask us and it comes out — it takes a person rather than a button, and we would far rather be asked than have you assume.
Beside every message sits one line in the record of what happened here: that it arrived, when, and the address and browser it came from. None of what you wrote is copied into that line. It is kept for eight years and nothing removes it on its own.
Who can open it
Our own staff, in a console that is not part of this site and cannot be reached without signing in. Signing in there needs a password and a code from an authenticator app — the second step is compulsory for us whatever a customer chooses for themselves.
What a person may open follows the job they do rather than being one key to everything, and it is checked every time rather than being decided once when they joined. Somebody who has left stops being able to open anything at their next attempt.
Every change made in there is written down against the person’s name: who, what, when, and the address they were working from. That record cannot be edited or deleted by anybody, which is the point of keeping it.
Ask us what we hold
Write or ring and we will tell you what is against your name and take it out if you want it out. You do not need a form of words or a reason, and asking is not a complaint — it is the only way to check whether a page like this is true.
If something here turns out to be wrong, that is worth more to us than a polite email. Tell us and the page changes.
